In Looker, you can export data from a Look or a Explore by clicking the “Download” button in the top right corner of the screen. The data can be exported in several different formats, including CSV, Excel, JSON, and Google Sheets. You can also specify the number of rows to export and whether or not to include pivot information. Additionally, you can schedule an export for a Look or Explore, if you need to export the data on a regular basis.

There are also Looker API endpoints that can be used to export data, which allows you to programmatically export data from Looker. The Looker API uses the same authentication as the web application and allows you to export data in CSV and JSON format.

Top Methods to Extract Data from Looker

There are several ways to export data from Looker, depending on the format and location that you would like to export the data to.

  1. CSV export: This allows you to export the data in a CSV format, which can be opened in most spreadsheet programs. To export data in this format, click on the “Download” button in the top-right corner of the Looker interface, and select “CSV” from the dropdown menu.
  2. JSON export: This allows you to export the data in a JSON format, which is a common format for data interchange. To export data in this format, click on the “Download” button in the top-right corner of the Looker interface, and select “JSON” from the dropdown menu.
  3. Google Sheets export: This allows you to export the data directly to a Google Sheet. To do this, click on the “Download” button in the top-right corner of the Looker interface, and select “Google Sheets” from the dropdown menu. This will prompt you to sign in to your Google account, and will create a new sheet in your Google Drive with the exported data.
  4. Bigquery: You can also export data to bigquery by installing bigquery exporter which is an official looker app, which once installed you can export data to any bigquery dataset.
  5. Others: Looker also provide an API endpoint which could be used to export data from looker using programmatic way. There are also other Integrations as well, like exports to S3, Redshift, Snowflake and more, but for that you need to have the specific integrations enabled.
